My mom always made homemade syrup when I was growing up. And she always boiled it over...pretty much every time. She would get so mad because it made such a sticky mess down in the burner. If you don't boil it over, homemade syrup is so easy, way cheaper, and tastes a whole lot better than that store bought, bottled stuff.
Maple Syrup
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup water
1/2 tsp. Mapleine
Combine sugars and water in a sauce pan. Stir and bring to a soft boil. As soon as it starts to boil, reduce heat to low and add Mapleine. Serve.
This is what Mapleine looks like. You buy it in the spice section of the grocery store, near where all of the other extracts and flavorings are. |
